At 11:39 on April 9th, 2024 Arvada Fire Protection District responded to a grass fire in Spring Mesa Park off W. 77th Dr. and Yankee Ct. Neighbors and nearby workers put water on the fire and contained the blaze until Brush 58 and Engine 58 arrived on scene to pull a hose line, conduct overhaul, and ensure the fire was out. The fire was estimated to be about 25 x 25 feet in size.
Conditions in our Wildland Urban Interface are quite dry in many areas. Plants and grasses are still dormant and brown, and are receptive to fire. The spark from a mower blade, dragged chain behind a vehicle, or discarded cigarette could be enough to start a fire. This grass fire started in almost the exact location that Arvada Fire and Fairmount Fire Protection District crews are conducting wildland firefighting training this month. There was no training today and the fire was unrelated to any training. Additional information provided by Arvada Fire Protection District

Units on Scene: Battalion 51, Battalion 52, Brush 58, Engine 58, PIO 52, Bureau 52 & Bureau 53
