Submerged Vehicle Recovery

On January 9th, 2024 after 08:00 Aurora Fire Rescue, Aurora Police Department, South Metro Fire Rescue, Falck and Western Towing retrieved a vehicle from a icy water retention pond at General’s Park in Aurora that was submerged into the pond from a January 7th, 2024 two-vehicle accident near on E. Colfax Ave. & N. Quentin St. that sent the vehicle into the pond. The vehicle was not visible from the surface of the pond which had been frozen over. South Metro Dive Team broke the ice to gain access to the water then sent an initial dive team into the water to assess the vehicle’s condition. A second dive team then connected the vehicle to towing cables and a tow truck pulled the vehicle to shore at 10:56.  The driver was able to get out of the vehicle before in sank into the water and later was arrested for DUI.
