On July 4th, 2024 at 22:47 Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue and the I-70 corridor fire departments responded to a weed fire at Kiowa Bennett Rd. and Hwy. 36. Crews arrived to a large brush fire and requested to evacuate homes in the area by . The fire was put under control with no injuries or structures lost. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
