North Metro Attic Fire

On April 25th, 2024 at 15:32 North Metro Fire Rescue District, Thornton Fire Department and Westminster Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 3400 block of W. 154th Ave. in Broomfield. Broomfield Public Safety Communications Center advised that fire was possibly caused by a lightning strike. Engine 64 arrived to a medium size two-story home with smoke and flames from the roof and started fire attack with 1 3/4 line. Engine 66 and Medic 66 went into the attic space and found smoke and fire and crews started fire attack. Engine 61
assist with Engine 64 water supply and Truck 6 deployed their stick to the roof. Battalion 61 arrived and assumed command in the offensive strategy. The fire was quickly extinguish and most of the damage was contained to the roof and attic area. Crews worked an extended overhaul pulling roof tiles and investigating from the interior to make sure there are no remaining hot spots that could rekindle. All occupants were able to safely evacuate with their dogs without injury before fire crews arrived on scene. A building official will determine whether the structure is safe for the family to live in overnight.
