At 15:39 on August 22nd, 2024 Douglas Regional 911 Communications Center dispatched Castle Rock Fire & Rescue Department to a reported vegetation fire behind 3141 Starry Night Loop in The Meadows Community. 911 callers reported visible flames and smoke after a lightning strike, and smoke was visible as units responded. Upon arrival, Battalion Chief 151 assumed command at the Ridgeline Open Space Trailhead. Medic 154 and Brush 154 were assigned to recon and fire control, both crews hiked in with hand tools and bladder bags. A courageous resident grabbed a shovel and contained the fire to a 10×15′ area before Castle Rock fire units arrived. Safety 151 positioned at the closest homes as a lookout and Brush 155 assisted with mop up. Douglas County’s contracted wildland helicopter 5TA launched when the fire was dispatched and did several passes over the scene before returning to base. No injuries occurred.
