South Metro Structure Fire

On October 6th, 2024 at 02:10 South Metro Fire Rescue along with Aurora Fire Rescue responded to a single-family residential structure fire at 6121 South Kirk St in Centennial. Upon arrival, firefighters from Engine 23 and Medic 23 discovered a fully involved fire impacting the back side of the a three-story residential with a walk-out basement spreading throughout the home. Firefighters immediately faced unstable flooring conditions, which necessitated a transition to a defensive fire attack to effectively combat the blaze. Fire was determined to be under control at 03:01. All three occupants of the home evacuated safely without injuries. However, two cats residing in the home remain unaccounted for at this time. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced occupants with emergency support. The home sustained extensive fire damage throughout the structure. No injuries were reported and investigators from the SMFR Fire Marshal’s office have determined that the fire originated outside on the wood deck from an unattended fire pit that had not been completely extinguished.
