In the afternoon of April 12th, 2024 Chaffee County 911 dispatched the Chaffee County Fire Protection District and Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office to Hwy. 50 east of Maysville, next to the Colorado Department of Transportation Monarch Pass Yard for a semi-truck on fire. On arrival crews found a truck hauling lumber brakes caught fire and it had spread to the cab of the truck and lumber it was hauling. Engine 4 quickly deployed an attack line and Tender 4 established a water supply to Engine 4. They were able to get a quick knock down of the fire and transitioned to conduct overhaul. Crews were not able to save the truck but were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the rest of the load. The Colorado DOT assisted responders with unloading the remainder of the trailer.
