At 19:10 on June 15th, 2024, the El Paso County 911 Communications Center dispatched the Cimarron Hills Fire Department and Falcon Fire Department to the 7200 block of Watonga Court for a possible structure fire. While enroute, fire dispatch advised responding companies there was smoke and flames coming from the home, and 911 callers were reporting small explosions coming from the garage. On scene, Ladder 1331 confirmed there was working fire and established Watonga Command. Squad 1341 arrived and masked up to perform a primary search of the structure, while Ladder 1331 stretched an attack line to the alpha side. Engine 314 and Medic 384 arrived shortly after, and Engine 314 established a water supply and pumped to Ladder 1331. While knocking down the main body of fire in the garage, a 100lb propane tank was pulled from the garage and moved to the front yard. Once the fire was knocked down, Ladder 1331 was reassigned to perform a secondary search of the home and Engine 314 began searching for extension. At this time crews began to see increased smoke production from the eves on the Alpha side on the home, Engine 314 then discovered extension into the attic space of the garage. At 19:56, smoke production continued to increase and spread to the living space of the home; Engine 313 was then requested to respond to the scene. On Engine 313’s arrival, their crew joined up with the crew from Ladder 1331 and Engine 314 to enter the structure and continue to search for extension into the addict space. Once fire crews chased down all fire extension the scene was handed over to the Pikes Peak Region Fire Investigation Unit and the American Red Cross was requested to assist the displaced occupants. No injuries were reported by civilians or responders, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
