West Metro Structure Fire

On January 13th, 2024 around 01:00 Jeffcom dispatched West Metro Fire Rescue to a possible structure fire in the 1500 block of S. Ames St. in Lakewood. Engine 7 arrived to a working fire from a fourplex and pulled a 1 3/4 for fire attack to the Charlie side in the offensive strategy with Medic 7. Engine 8 arrived and secured the water supply to Engine 7 and Tower 8 pulled a 2nd line from Engine 7 with the primary search to the main fire unit. Medic 8 assigned as medical, Engine 1 as search in the Bravo structure and Engine 3 as RIT. Crews found fire in the attic area. Engine 8 reassigned to the Alpha side for fire attack with a attack line from Engine 7 and Tower 2 arrived and went to the roof. District 2 arrived and assumed command. Firefighters found a cat in the basement, but did not survive. Crews worked the fire in -4 degrees with icy and cold conditions, which made it challenging including a frozen hydrant at one point. No injures were reported and one dog was missing in the fire. The structure sustained heavy damage and is a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
