West Metro Garage Fire

On February 25th, 2024 at 15:48 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a possible structure fire in the 7900 block of W. 8th Ave. in Lakewood. Jeffcom advised 911 callers reporting smoke from a detached garage. Engine 1 arrived to a small single-story detached garage with smoke showing from the attic, pulled 1 3/4 for fire control and search with Medic 1 in the offensive strategy. Engine 7 arrived and secured the water supply at Westview Dr. & W. 8th Ave. to Engine 1 and Medic 11 set-up as medical. Engine 16 assisted with fire attack and District 1 arrived and assumed command. Crews got water on the fire and under control quickly and started overhaul. The fire was caused by improperly disposed of smoking materials. One vehicle was inside the garage, which is a total loss.
