Rocky Mountain ARFF Drill

The Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport held several ARFF Drills on May 15th, 2024 that was designed to test the preparedness and response plans of the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport Fire (ARFF), North Metro Fire Rescue District, RMMA Personnel, Broomfield Dispatch, Jeffcom Dispatch, and the RMMA (FAA) Air Traffic Control Tower. The Drill also tested communication systems that are used during aircraft accidents. The scenarios started with a King Air that had an engine issue on departure and an Alert 2 was initiated. An emergency landing was set-up for a off runway landing near the fuel farm. Alert 3 was initiated with smoke and fire seen from the tower. Crews arrived on scene with smoke and fire showing and pulled a line in for fire attack. Crews also used the drill for familiarization of the SCBA and tools that are on the rigs. Due to staffing, traffic cones were substitutes for fire this year.
