On September 20th, 2024 at 06:53 Jeffcom 911 dispatched West Metro Fire Rescue Engine 17 to a commercial fire alarm at the King Soopers, 3400 Youngfield St. in Wheat Ridge. Engine 17 arrived to a large commercial structure with horns activated and strobes with nothing showing and started the investigation. Crews inside found a water pipe leak and possible Freon leak and requested a hazmat response and the store was evacuated. District 1 arrived, assumed command on the Alpha side. Command advised dispatch that the resources on scene can handle and to cancelled the South Metro response. Crews found that a forklift operator hit a pipe, causing the leak and firefighters ventilated the building to remove all the remaining Freon in the air which took an extended time. Additional information provided by West Metro Fire Rescue
