West Metro Kiln Fire

At 16:34 on November 23rd, 2024 West Metro Fire Rescue and Arvada Fire Protection District was alerted to a reported structure fire in the 3300 block of Independence Court in Wheat Ridge. Engine 17 arrived to a small single-story residence with smoke showing from a metal roof-top exhaust vent on the Bravo-Charlie corner of the garage area. Engine 16 secured the water supply and firefighters found a kiln that caught fire into the the rafters of the garage. District 1 arrived and assumed command in the offensive strategy. Crews made access to the roof and once the interior ceiling panels were removed, a small working fire was located in the rafter area which was quickly extinguished. The kiln which is gas fired was shut off by the homeowner prior to arrival. No extension was found and no injuries reported. Additional information was provided by West Metro Fire Rescue.
