Palmer Lake Fire Department

Palmer Lake Fire Department (PLFD), covering 6 square miles in El Paso County (Colorado) including the areas of Elephant Acres, Forest View Estates, Monument Creek, Palmer Divide, Pike National Forest, Pine Crest, Romoca & Sundance Mountain. (FDID #04163) El Paso County Number Series: 2000

Palmer Lake Fire Department began as volunteers in the mid-1930’s and its first equipment consisted of a hand-drawn hose cart stored at an automotive garage in the center of town. When a fire started, volunteers passing by the garage would pick up the cart on the way to the fire.  Over the next several years, the department evolved. A modified 1927 Dodge became the department’s first fire truck. In 1937, the department officially began with a new fire truck and a new station built on the corner of Middle Glenway and Valley Crescent which was finished in 1938 next to town hall and formed the Palmer Lake Volunteer Fire Department.

Palmer Lake Fire Department (2000) is dispatched by El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center.
