South Metro Residential Fire
At 06:10 on January 17th, 2026 South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire in the 7000 block of S. Columbine Way in Cherry Knolls. South Metro Fire Dispatch advised of active fire in the garage of the home and the call was upgraded to a confirmed structure fire response. Engine 14 arrived to a two-story single-family residential with fire in the garage and pulled a 2 1/2 for fire attack. Reports of the family may be possibly trapped inside and District Chief 1 requested a 2nd alarm. Tower 32 arrived and assigned with the primary search with Medic 15. Engine 15 secured the water supply to Engine 14 and Medic 17 pulled 1 3/4 from Engine 14 to the front door. Battalion 2 arrived and assumed command and confirmed that no one was home and with all the searches clear, the 2nd alarm was cancelled. The fire extended into the home from the garage including the basement and the 2nd floor. The fire was put under control at 06:36 and crews worked an extensive overhaul. While searching the home, one cat was located inside which did not survive. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the SMFR Fire Marshal’s Office.
