Mountain View House Fire

On January 24th, 2026 Mountain View Fire Rescue and Lafayette Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire on Daily Drive in Erie. When crews arrived on the scene they found that the warming apparatus surrounding an avocado tree had caught fire and spread to the siding of the home. Homeowners and neighbors helped limit the spread of the flames because they started dousing the fire with buckets of water before fire crews arrived. Crews finished extinguishing the fire before the flames reached the interior of the home and then completed the overhaul of the scene. The MVFR Fire Marshal responded to the home and conducted an investigation where he found several possible causes, including Christmas lights and parts of the warming apparatus for the tree.
