On February 3rd, 2026 West Metro Fire Rescue held their annual ice rescue training on Crown Hill Lake at the Crown Hill Park in Wheat Ridge. This annual training in ponds, lakes and reservoirs prepares fire and rescue crews and ensures their readiness, in the event of an actual emergency. Crews were rotated throughout the morning and early afternoon, saving makeshift scenario victims being trapped on the ice, and others who have fallen through the ice. Crews who entered the fringed waters, as victim or as a rescuer, sported bright yellow and thermal protected rescue suits.
