On February 5th, 2026 West Metro Fire Rescue conducted their 2nd day of ice rescue training at the Bear Creek Lake Park on Hwy. 8 (W. Morrison Rd.) just off C-470 in Morrison. The annual training in ponds, lakes and reservoirs prepares fire and rescue crews and ensures their readiness, in the event of an actual emergency. Crews were rotated throughout the morning and early afternoon, saving makeshift scenario victims who are trapped on the ice, and others who have fallen through the ice. Crews who entered the fringed waters, as victim or as a rescuer, sported bright yellow and thermal protected rescue suits.
