North Metro Garage Fire
On May 28th, 2026 at approximately 21:40 North Metro Fire Rescue District, Thornton Fire Department and Westminster Fire Department responded to a garage fire in the 2000 block of W. 153rd Place in unincorporated Adams County. Battalion 62 advised that active fire from Huron St. and Northwest Parkway. Engine 66 arrived to a small detached garage with a working fire with fire from the roof and an extended lay and requested a major incident tone. Battalion 62 arrived and assumed command in the offensive strategy and requested an additional engine and truck to the scene. Engine 64 arrived and assigned to work on the water supply and Engine 6 to assist with fire attack and pull a 2 1/2 off Engine 66. Back out tones were sent out at 22:08 for a defensive operations and Truck 74 put their stick up for aerial master stream operations. The fire was put under control at 22:18 and prevented further extension to the home and crews started an extensive overhaul. The attached garage contained multiple classic vehicles that were lost in the fire. No injuries were reported and NMFR Fire Marshal determined that the cause of the fire was lightning.
