Firefighters from across Eagle County came together at the Dotsero Burn Tower for a live fire training and on May 29th, 2026 that focused on one of the most dangerous fire ground phenomena: flashover. Crews from Eagle River Fire Protection District, Greater Eagle Fire Protection District, Gypsum Fire Protection District and Vail Fire & Emergency Services trained in controlled live-fire conditions to better understand the warning signs that can lead to flashover, how to read fire and smoke behavior, and how to safely operate in superheated environments. With the help of instructors and assistants across the county students were able to monitor live fire conditions in multiple rooms ending with the valuable flashover chamber.  These realistic training opportunities allow firefighters to observe fire dynamics firsthand and sharpen the skills needed to make critical decisions during structure fires. Training together strengthens the partnerships, improves interoperability, and helps ensure that when an emergency happens, firefighters across Eagle County are prepared to respond safely and effectively.
