Chief Hilinski Retirement
July 31st, 2018 was the final day of service for Sable Altura Fire Rescue Chief Matthew Hilinski (Chief 41) as he enters into retirement following forty-five years in the fire service. A ceremony was held on July 22nd, 2018 in Aurora. Hilinski has served as fire chief since 2009, and started in the U.S. Air Force as a Crash / Firefighter and retiring as Fire Chief of the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Fire Department after 31 years of service. While working for the Arsenal he also volunteered with Sable Altura and retired as a volunteer firefighter. During that tenure as a volunteer (and as a consultant after he retired) he maintained responsibilities as the department’s Fire Marshall before stepping up to the role of interim Fire Chief in 2008 and Fire Chief in 2009. Battalion Chief Rich Solomon was sworn in as the next chief of Sable Altura on July 11th, 2018 and is now assume command of the department.
