In 1956, after buying the Waterton site, The Martin Company established an onsite fire response team. The Martin Marietta Corporation was an American company founded in 1961 through the merger of Glenn L. Martin Company and American-Marietta Corporation. In 1995, it merged with Lockheed Corporation to form Lockheed Martin.
In 1996 after the merger with Lockheed Martin, the fire department was reduced to a fire brigade by the name Lockheed Martin Emergency Response Team (ERT). It would be operated by reduced staff, with axillary members to be activated when the need arises. The paid members were dual purpose security and fire emergency responders. There were 2 stations initially, Station 1 located as attached building behind the administration building housing the first due Squirt 101, Ambulance 101, and (historic Brush 101) Brush 106 during the warm weather months. Station 2 located in the Propulsion test zone, housed a reserve engine 102 & 103 (engine 103 retired to a volunteer department in 2005) and housed Brush 106 in winter.
The formation of a formal wildfire response team and critical first response units occurred in 2002 after the Hayman Fire came fire too close to the production plant prompting change in the fire response. 2 type 6 CAFS (Compressed Air Foam units) were ordered and delivered from Canada manufacturer Snuffer, and a new station was acquired at remote storage facility, becoming Station 3. In 2009, a versatile addition of a type 2 dry-sided tender with pump & roll was ordered from Peirce, adding Tender 101 to the fleet. All 3 types 6 brush units and Tender 101 where stationed at Station 3.
In 2016, the Emergency Response Team (ERT) dissolved with the addition of Littleton Fire Rescue Station 19. The staff that remained would make up the Fire Compliance team of the Emergency Services branch of Security. South Metro Fire Rescue took over the district on January 1st, 2019 after the merged with Littleton Fire Rescue. The Fire/EMS team currently inspects, maintains, tests, fire alarm, fire suppression, and responds to Fire/EMS emergencies on the Waterton Campus, and assists South Metro Fire Rescue on emergency management within the Incident Management structures.
