St. Mary’s Glacier Fire Department

St. Mary’s Glacier Volunteer Fire Department (SMGVFD), located in Clear Creek County.

St. Mary’s Glacier Fire Department was originally founded in 1979 as the Silver Creek Volunteer Fire Department, part of the St. Mary’s Glacier Metropolitan District and changed the name to Alice / St, Mary’s Volunteer Fire Department.

In 1989, the Alice / St. Mary’s Glacier Fire Department signed an intergovernmental agreement with the Clear Creek Emergency Services General Improvement District (ESD), which was formed in 1988 by the voters in the unincorporated areas of Clear Creek County. As a participant with the ESD, St. Mary’s Glacier contributed to the consolidated fire protection effort in Clear Creek County through intergovernmental agreements with Empire, Idaho Springs, Georgetown, and Silver Plume.

In 1998 Alice / St. Mary’s Glacier Fire Department became part of the Clear Creek Fire Authority, which is presently the governmental entity responsible for providing fire protection in Clear Creek County. Additional Info provided by Clear Creek Fire Authority.

In 2005 volunteers changed the name to St. Mary’s Glacier Volunteer Fire Department.
