Lakewood Barn Fire

West Metro Fire Rescue responded to several fires in the early morning on April 28th, 2018 in the area of 3rd Ave & Sheridan Blvd. At 3:10 crews responded to a barn on fire at the 5400 block of 3rd Ave, Engine 1 arrived and started a master stream off tank water to a fully involved shed structure with defensive ops with power lines down. Tower 8 secured a water supply to Engine 3, and advised that residents were evacuating horses on the property. Medic 16 pulled a 1 ¾ off Engine 3 for fire attack. Crews got the fire under control at 3:42 with an extended overhaul and hot spots. Six horses were killed and four rescued. Three fires occurred in the same area with the fourth fire more than a half mile away, which they were all rules suspicious. One firefighter suffered minor injuries and no other injuries were reported. The fires are under investigation with the ATF, Colorado Bureau of Investigation and Lakewood Police Department.
