West Metro Duplex Fire

On March 31st, 2024 at 07:00 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a possible structure fire in the 11700 block of W. Independence Ave. in Lakewood. Jeffcom advised 911 callers reporting heavy smoke from the back of the structure. Engine 2 arrived to a small two-story duplex with a working fire from the Charlie side and pulled a 1 3/4 for fire control in the offensive strategy. Engine 3 secured the water supply to Engine 2. Crews got the fire out quickly and started the overhaul. West Metro investigator determined that the fire was caused by an electrical short in the crawlspace, resulting in moderate damage.
