Monterey Fire Department, located in Monterey County (California) including the areas of Asilomar State Marine Reserve, Aumentos Rock, Carmel Beach, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Carel Point, Carmel River State Beach, Carmel Valley, Carmel Woods, Del Monte, Del Rey Oaks, Golden Rectangle, Hatton Fields, High Meadows, Jack’s Peak, La Mesa Village, Lovers Point Park, Mission Fields, Mission Trail Park, Monterey Regional Airport, Naval Postgraduate School, Pacific Grove, Pescadero Canyon, Presidio of Monterey, Rip Van Winkle Open Space & Sand City.

Monterey Fire Department originally started in 1882 as a fire brigade by a group of citizens, and in 1884 a group of citizens formed a fire fighting force to give fire protection to the rest of the town’s citizens. In 1890 the fire department was chartered by the City, with William E. Parker was selected as the city’s first Fire Chief. Chief Parker would go on to become the oldest fire chief in the nation, serving in the position of fire chief from 1890 until his retirement in 1942. The Pacific Grove Fire Department (PGFD) merged with the department in 2008. Carmel-by-the-Sea Fire Department merged in 2012.
