Aurora 2nd Alarm Kitchen Fire

October 19th, 2025 Aurora Fire Rescue responded to the 6-story Fellow at Fitz complex, located at 12600 E. Colfax Ave. just after 13:00 on a possible structure fire. First arriving Engine 3 sized up nothing showing on arrival and made their way to the fourth floor with hose packs and tools. Battalion 2 assumed command, Engine 2 established a water supply on E. Colfax Ave., Engine 2 and Ladder 2’s crew were assigned to assist Engine 3. Engine 3 reported no alarm activation in the building and no smoke in the hallways. Upon reaching the apartment in question an odor was present, and the apartment was filled with smoke. Command transmitted a second alarm due to the high population inside the building and potential complexity of incident operations. Level two staging was identified in the south parking lot of the Anshutz Inpatient Pavilion (AIP). Engine 4 established a water supply on the Charlie side and prepared to supply the FDC, and Ladder 5 also positioned on the Charlie side. Battalion 1 completed a 360 and assumed incident safety. Engine 3 found flames on the stovetop spreading to kitchen cabinets and quickly controlled the fire with a water extinguisher. With no extension to neighboring units, Command cancelled all additional responding resources. One dog was located inside and reunited with its humans, and crews worked for the next 45 minutes ventilating smoke from the apartment and hallway. 2 adults and 2 juveniles were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. No injuries occurred and the fire was accidental.
