Castlewood Canyon Lightning Strike

On June 13th, 2025 Franktown Fire Protection District and Castle Rock Fire & Rescue Department quickly contained a lightning strike wildland fire on Friday afternoon. At 15:44 a single 911 caller reported smoke southeast of 1611 Castle Point Drive in rural Douglas County. While crews were responding the caller advised flames visible and the incident was reclassified as a brush fire. First arriving Engine 181 observed smoke in the trees and a community member provided transportation to the fire with a side-by-side. Captain 183 assumed command on Castlewood Canyon Road and assigned Brush 153 and Brush 151 to assist with fire control. Douglas County Helitack provided aerial reconnaissance and it was determined their crew of 5 hand crew members and water drops were not necessary for this incident. The fire was quickly contained to a 20×20 area, no structures were threatened and no injuries occurred.
