Deer Trail Residential Structure Fire
Deer Trail Structure Fire
At 10:05 on February 20th, 2025 the I-70 Corridor was dispatched to a reported residential structure on 3rd Ave. in Deer Trail, Initial 911 calls reported a fire in the crawlspace. First arriving Chief 31 assumed command and sized up a one-story residential structure with heavy smoke showing from the crawl space and the structure. Brush Engine 31 pulled an attack line and initiated a fire attack on the Charlie side through a small access hole into the crawlspace. Chief 81 arrived and was assigned as Safety and Chief 71 as Operations. There was no exterior access to the crawl space other than small ventilation holes, and the homeowner stated that there was no interior access either. As additional crews arrived Engine 81 layed out a supply line to Brush Engine 31 and pulled a 2nd attack line. Smoke was observed to be pushing out of the entire structure at this point as crews started to breach the exterior walls to try to get to the seat of the fire. Interior crews confirmed no access to the crawl space and soft floors toward the Bravo-Charlie corner. As crews opened up to the Bravo-Charlie exterior corner, active fire was found in several interior rooms as well as extension up the exterior walls to the roofline. Crews chased the fire for over an hour before declaring the fire under control. Investigation showed that the fire started as a result of using a torch to thaw pipes in the crawl space.
