
Lakewood West Mississippi Ave Vacant Structure Fire
West Metro Defensive Fire
On September 3rd, 2025 at 13:11 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire in the 5400 block of W. Mississippi Ave. in Lakewood. Jeffcom 911 received several 911 callers reporting the fire when they saw smoke and flames. Engine 7 arrived to a small single-family abandoned structure with a working fire and pulled a line for exterior fire attack. District 2 arrived and assumed command in the offensive strategy. Medic 7 started the primary search and Engine 3 assisted with the water supply. Engine 8 pulled a 2nd line off Engine 7 and Tower 8 assisted Medic 7 with the primary search. Firefighters inside found numerous holes in the floor and withdrew from the structure and the incident was switched to defensive operations. Medic 3 arrived on scene and assigned as medical group. The fire was put under control at 13:33 and crews worked an extended overhaul. The vacant home was previously compromised by fire and was boarded up, but the plywood was removed. The vacant home was being used as a shelter by unhoused people. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation. Additional information provided by West Metro Fire Rescue
