West Metro Structure Fire

On May 1st, 2025 at 23:34 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire in the 5400 block of W. Mississippi Ave. in Lakewood. Jeffcom 911 reported smoke and flames showing from 911 caller. Engine 7 arrived to a small single-story single-family abandoned structure with a working fire and pulled a line for fire attack with Medic 7. Engine 8 established the water supply to Engine 7 and Engine 1 pulled a 2nd line off Engine 7 to the Alpha side and started the primary search. Tower 8 arrived and assigned with forcible entry and Medic 8 as medical. District 2 arrived and took over command in the offensive strategy. Engine 8 finished the water supply and was reassigned to assist Engine 1 with the primary search. The fire was put under control at 00:14 and crews started an extended overhaul. The vacant home was being used as a shelter by unhoused people. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation. Additional information provided by West Metro Fire Rescue
