Merino Highway 6 Grass Fire

On March 25th, 2025 the Merino Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched by the Sterling Emergency Communications Center (SECC) to a vegetation fire threatening structures near Hwy. 6 and Logan County Rd. 6. Initial units arrived requested additional resources from multiple agencies. Crews battled swamp like terrain and extremely high winds with structures threatened which were all saved. Little Tornado Towing and High Plains Diesel assisted in getting fire apparatus and tractors unstuck in the heavy mud.
