Adams County Defensive Fire

On July 11th, 2026 at 23:00 Adams County Fire Rescue, Westminster Fire Department and Arvada Fire Protection District responded to a possible grass fire or structure fire in the 5300 block of N. Sheridan Blvd. in Arvada. Engine 12 arrived on scene to a working fire in a one-story commercial building with fire from two sides and involving the deck on the Bravo side and pulled a line for fire attack. Engine 1 secured the water supply to Engine 12 and pull a 2nd line to the Bravo side with Medic 12 and Truck 11 arrived and set-up for master stream operations and the roof report. Battalion 11 arrived and assumed command on the Alpha side in the offensive strategy and requested a major incident tone. Engine 3 assigned to force open doors on the Alpha and Charlie sides. Truck 11 reported a partial roof collapse and deteriorating fire conditions with fire on four corners and command then transitioned all crews from an offensive to a defensive operations. Engine 51 arrived and assigned to control a grass fire that spread into the tress spreading to the I-76 ramp. Once fire conditions improved, a limited interior operation was conducted to extinguish the remaining fire and to complete a primary search while avoiding the compromised roof area. The fire was put under control at 23:32 and crews worked on an extended overhaul. Adams County fire investigations team determined the fire was intentionally set on the outside of the building, and ultimately spread to the interior of the building.
