Aurora Working House Fire

At 01:35 on October 23rd, 2026 Aurora Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire in the 4600 block of S. Lewiston Way when smoke detectors alerted the residents to a fire in their home. All occupants self-evacuated and called 911. While crews responded to the scene, Battalion Chief 5 upgraded to a working fire due to a large number of 911 calls reporting the fire and a report of a possible party trapped inside. Ladder 6 arrived first on scene and reported heavy fire from the garage and went all in for search. As Engine 6 and Ladder 6 were making entry into the home, the house flashed over. Crews made entry and quickly got water on the fire. They encountered heavy fire throughout the home, including the garage, attic space and back patio. The incident was placed under control within 30 minutes of the initial 911 call. All searches of the home were negative for any people. Throughout the incident, crews rescued several pets from the home. A total of 5 pets, one dog and 4 cats, were transported to an animal hospital for treatment. Sadly, three of the animals died. The home sustained major fire, water and smoke damage to the garage, back patio and attic. No human injuries. The four residents were been displaced, as well as 18 cats, 2 dogs and 3 lizards. The American Red Cross was called and assisted the homeowners. The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental. Information provided by Aurora Fire Rescue
