
Lakewood South Wadsworth Boulevard Fire
Lithium-ion Battery Fire
On February 3rd, 2026 at 00:41 West Metro Fire Rescue was dispatched to a possible structure fire in the 3900 block of S. Wadsworth Blvd. at the Pine Hurst Apartments in Lakewood. Jeffcom 911 advised that several callers reporting a fire inside the apartment. SAM 2 arrived to a large three-story apartment building with light smoke from the 3rd floor. Engine 10 pulled a 1 3/4 line for fire attack with Tower 10. Crews found a small fire that was put out from the apartment tenants before crews arrived. Crews ensured extinguishment and evaluated the occupants. No injuries were reported. The cause was determined that lithium-ion batteries on a charger that went into thermal runaway when they overheated and ignited combustible items nearby. Lakewood PD secured the scene.
