West Metro Apartment Fire
On January 4th, 2026 at 13:53 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a possible structure fire in the 12900 block of W. Maple Place in Lakewood. Jeffcom 911 received several 911 callers and advised that the fire is reported from the 2nd floor patio with one possible burned patient needing medical. District 2 arrived on scene to a working fire from the 2nd floor balcony extending to the 3rd floor and took command on the Charlie side in the offensive strategy. Engine 4 arrived on the Alpha side and started fire attack and the primary search. Medic 8 pulled additional line to the 2nd floor with Medic 4 on the Alpha side. Engine 2 started the primary search and command requested two additional medics. Engine 6 secured the water supply to Engine 4 and then assigned with RIT. Tower 2 went to the roof with their stick and Engine 3 secured the water supply to Tower 2. Crews worked heavy fire that was fueled by windy conditions and spreading into the attic space. Firefighters assisted one resident safely out of the structure and another resident was injured and transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. Crews also rescued two dogs and a cat. One dog inside the unit where the fire started was unable to escape and did not survive. The fire was put under control at 14:17 and crews worked on hotspots, and conducted an extended and extensive overhaul. The apartment where the fire began and the unit directly above it sustained extensive fire damage. Several surrounding units were impacted by smoke and water damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The fire displaced 15 residents and caused significant damage to multiple units and American Red Cross was requested to the scene.
