Mike Dawson Walk-Off Ceremony
On July 15th, 2026 North Metro Fire Rescue District proudly honored Capt. Mike Dawson with a traditional firefighter walk-off ceremony celebrating his retirement after 22 years of dedicated service to our organization and more than three decades of service in emergency medicine and public safety. Surrounded by family, friends, and fellow first responders with members from North Metro, Thornton Fire Department along with Broomfield Police Department and Northglenn Police Department. Capt. Dawson concluded an extraordinary career defined by unwavering commitment, clinical excellence, and servant leadership. Throughout his career, Capt. Dawson helped shape the future of emergency medical services at North Metro Fire Rescue. From advancing respiratory care and implementing new lifesaving medical technologies to mentoring generations of firefighters and paramedics, his influence extends far beyond the patients he treated. His expertise was especially invaluable during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he helped guide EMS operations, develop evolving treatment protocols, and ensure our crews had the resources they needed to safely care for the community. His leadership has left a lasting mark on our organization, the North Area, and the fire service profession. Capt. Dawson’s legacy will continue through the people he mentored, the systems he helped modernize, and the culture of excellence he helped build. We are profoundly grateful for his years of service, his dedication to improving patient care, and the countless ways he invested in the success of others.
