At 21:26 on March 25th, 2013 Denver Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 500 block of W. 3rd Ave. Chief 3 arrived to a 2-story structure with Engine 11 & Rescue 1, Engine 11 established the water supply at W. 3rd Ave. & Elati St. and Rescue 1 reported smoke pushing from the Charlie side window. Rescue 1 was assigned as fire attack with Engine 11 and advanced a line inside the first floor and basement. Tower 1 positioned on the Alpha side, laddered the roof and to the 2nd floor to search where the heavy smoke conditions were found. Engine 1 laid in from W. 3rd Ave. & Delaware St. and a back-up line was advanced inside. Hamer 1 was assigned as RIT, Truck 8 laddered the roof and began opening up all the boarded doors and windows with Tower 23. Truck 8 performed vertical ventilation on the Bravo side. With all hands working, Chief 2 requested an extra Chief, Engine & Truck to the scene. A hole in the first floor was discovered as well as heating salamanders on both levels which were promptly removed. The Charlie side exposure sits inches from the fire building which caused access problems. Chief 4 was assigned as Safety and Truck 15 assisted with RIT duties. The fire was placed under control about 45 minutes into the incident. No injuries were reported, all searched proved negative and investigators were called to the scene.
