After stops in Boulder, Colorado Springs, Denver and Englewood, the 2014 Polar Plunge made it’s way to the City of Aurora. Aurora Parks, Recreation and Open Space hosted the event at the Aurora Reservoir on March 8th, 2014. Hundreds of die-hard plungers, many from area law enforcement agencies, took advantage of the warm weather to go “Freezin’ for a Reason”!  While Rangers patrolled the shoreline, members of the Aurora Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit took to the 38-degree water to keep savvy swimmers safe. Proceeds from the event benefited Special Olympics Colorado. Aurora’s Heavy Rescue Unit is cross-staffed when needed by the crews of Engine 8 and Tower 8.
