Golden Cave Rescue

At 18:35 on November 9th, 2014 Golden Fire Department responded to a party trapped in a cave entrance off of Hwy. 6 in the Clear Creek Canyon just west of Tunnel # 1. Dispatch advised that a person was stuck in an old mine and was not injured. Battalion 21 arrived on scene and was flagged down, and found that 14 Colorado School of Mines students were hiking when one of them explored an old mine and could not get back out. Rescue 21 arrived and provided command lighting for the staging area. Command requested assistance from the Colorado School of Mines Mine Rescue Team. CSM MRT Mine Rescue 1 arrived on scene with the rescue trailer. Crews on scene hiked about a half a mile up the mountain to get into the area. The party was extracted and safely helped out of the cave after an extended period of time after 21:00. No injuries were reported. Additional information provided by Golden Fire Department
