In preparation for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, the Denver Fire Department held a turkey fryer demonstration at the Rocky Mountain Fire Academy on November 18th, 2014. The demonstration highlighted the safety hazards that may be present when deep frying turkeys. U.S. fire departments are responding to more than 1,000 fires each year in which a deep fryer is involved. The National Fire Protection Association says deep fryer fires result in more than $15 million in property damage each year and hot oil splatter can cause serious burns to an adult or life threatening injuries to a child. The department’s Public Information Officer, Academy Staff and the crew of Engine 27 assisted with the demonstration.
