Lakewood 3rd Alarm High Rise Fire
High Rise Apartment Fire
At 06:19 on June 30th, 2014 West Metro Fire Rescue was dispatched to a confirmed high rise structure fire at 693 Urban Ct. at the Ridgemoor Apartments in Lakewood. Dispatched advised that multiple 911 callers reporting possible parties trapped on the 6th floor with heavy smoke, and a 2nd alarm was struck. Engine 2 arrived to a 13-story multi-family high rise building with smoke showing from the 6th floor. Engine 2 established their own water supply at the FDC and took packs up to the 6th floor to connect to the stand pipe. Crews arrived to the 6th floor to find heavy smoke, started evacuations and began fire attack. Engine 4 arrived and took an additional 2 1/2 line with Medic 6 to the 6th floor. Tower 3 arrived and secured the elevators, and then went to the 6th floor to assist Engine 2 with evacuations. District 1 arrived and took over command on the Alpha side, and assigned Tower 10 to the Delta side and set-up for rescues. Crews were able to get a quick knock on the fire in a bedroom. Four patients and one firefighter were transported to a local hospital with minor injures and a dozen others were treated on scene. American Red Cross was requested for the full 6th floor residents that were displaced from their units. Investigators report that the fire may have started by a resident smoking in bed with an oxygen tank. Additional information was provided by West Metro Fire Rescue
