Fort Collins Structure Fire

At 11:39 on November 22, 2015 Poudre Fire Authority was alerted to a structure fire at 1506 Knotwood Court in Fort Collins. Engine 4 arrived to dark smoke and flames in the back of the residence. A second alarm was immediately called due to a confirmed structure fire and possible need for rescue. Engine 4 deployed an attack line to engage in exterior fire suppression. The fire attack crew reported heavy smoke and fire in the walls and roof line of the structure. Incoming units were directed to enter the smoke charged structure for search and rescue of possible victims. The front door of the structure was forced open with tools by the second arriving engine company. The search crew entered and used trained upon search tactics in zero visibility to clear the structure within minutes of arrival. No victims were found upon completion of a primary and secondary search. A second attack line was aggressively deployed to the interior of the structure for fire attack. Fire control was achieved 20 minutes into the operation. In coordination with the fire attack, firefighters removed heat and smoke from the structure by using chain saws to cut a hole in the roof for vertical ventilation. The aggressive interior and exterior fire attack along with ventilation prevented further fire spread and damage to the structure. Overhaul of the fire area reveal hidden fire which was extinguished when firefighters deployed an attack line to the roof.  Water, smoke, and fire damage occurred throughout the structure. Poudre Fire Authority assisted 2 citizens displaced, and PFA’s Community Assistance Response Team (CART) provided short term shelter needs for the displaced.
