Wheat Ridge Commercial Fire
On July 25th, 2015 at 21:26 Wheat Ridge Fire Protection District with auto-aid from West Metro Fire Rescue & Fairmount Fire Protection District responded to a reported commercial structure fire in the area of W. 29th Ave. & Depew St in Wheat Ridge. A 911 caller reported flames from the roof of the Rocky Mountain Poultry & Meat Building. Engine 73 arrived to heavy fire and smoke showing from a commercial building in the offensive strategy and pulled a attack line in. Engine 71 established a water supply to Engine 73. Battalion 71 positioned on the Alpha side and assumed command. The exact location of the fire was initially unclear and crews forced entry through a fence to gain access. Engine 1 assigned as proactive RIT on the Charlie side, and Engine 33 arrived and secured a secondary water supply at W. 29th Ave. & Fenton St. Medic 1 was assigned to go on deck on the Alpha side and then assist with ventilation. Chief 72 assigned as safety, and reported flame impingement on power lines. Crews gained entry to the building and due to unconventional construction they were forced to re-position to access the fire. A 2 1/2 was used to quickly control the fire in the attic space, the Delta 1 exposure was smoking and was checked for fire extension, none was found. Additional overall and fire suppression was required from the exterior before the fire was declared out. No injuries and the cause is under investigation.
