Wadsworth Structure Fire

At 9:52 on January 2nd, 2016 Arvada Fire Protection District Dispatch Center alerted crews to a structure fire at 6475 Wadsworth Blvd in the Scenic Heights Professional Building. First arriving Arvada Police Department reported smoke and flames showing on the South side of the building. Medic 54 arrived and confirmed there was heavy black smoke showing from the 3rd floor on the Charlie side. Engine 51 arrived and sized up a 3-story office building with flames showing. Engine 55 established a water supply, and pulled a 2 ½” line in on the Bravo side with a Blitzfire. Rescue 54 arrived and split into truck & squad for utilities. Battalion 51 arrived and assumed command, and declared a defensive strategy. Truck 56 positioned on the Charlie-Delta corner and was assigned to give a roof report. Dispatch advised Medic 54 of a burn victim in a nearby parking lot, which they attended to and transported to a local hospital. Reports indicated that a person was unaccounted for and possibly located on the 3rd floor. Command assigned Rescue 54 to VES on the 3rd floor and all of their searched proved negative. Engine 53 was assigned to the delta side with a Blitzfire. With all hands operating, Command requested mutual-aid and the ghost engine into the scene; Engine 57 moved up and was assigned to the Bravo-Charlie for water supply to Truck 56. After the second supply was established they Engine 57 assisted Engine 55 with a second 2 ½” line. With heavy fire conditions traveling from Bravo to Delta, Westminster Fire Department Truck 2 arrived and set-up on the Alpha side for aerial master stream operations. A catastrophic roof collapse occurred and the fire extended through various portions of the mansard. Crews worked the fire and overhaul for an extended time. No other reported injuries and the fire is under investigation.
