At approximately 14:42 on June 14th, 2018 Adams County Fire Rescue was dispatched to the 5400 block of Sheridan Blvd. when a home owner called 911 to report a grass/vegetation fire. The first unit arrived at 14:54 and saw three backyard sheds on fire, the flames stretched 20 feet into a large cottonwood tree. Firefighters began to simultaneously fight the fire and look for people inside all the mobile homes. Because the home owners had self-evacuated, firefighters continued to fight the fire. Crews knocked down the fire at approximately 15:24. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the vegetation and sheds and keep it from spreading to the adjacent mobile homes. The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation. There were no injuries to firefighters. A total of seven units and 16 firefighters from Adams County Fire Rescue responded to the incident. Federal Heights Fire Department and Westminster Fire Department assisted with an additional two units and six firefighters. Adams County Sheriff and Xcel Energy also assisted with the incident.
