Around 4:00 on September 30th, 2018 South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a residential structure fire in the 5800 block of South Lansing Way in Arapahoe County. Neighbors reported flames and smoke coming from a vacant home.  Engine 31, Medic 31 and Tower 32 arrived at the same time and found heavy smoke showing from the Charlie Side of a small 2-story duplex.  With flames showing from the walkout basement, 1st floor and 2nd floor, 31’s advanced a 1.75” attack line to the rear of the structure for transitional attack.  Battalion Chief 32 assumed command in the offensive strategy and assigned Safety 32 as incident safety officer.  Although one side of the duplex was for sale, the fire unit was in fact occupied.  Engine 42 assisted Engine 31 with water supply, Tower 32 and Tower 35 performed primary searches and overhaul.  Within 20 minutes from the time of call, the fire was placed under control and one deceased person was found inside the structure.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
