At 02:42 on September 6th, 2018, residents at 5706 S. Pearl Street woke up to smoke filling their apartment. After waking their neighbors and evacuating they saw smoke coming from the roof and called 911. First arriving Ladder 12 found nothing showing from a small, single story triplex with a basement. The crew of Ladder and Medic 12 made entry into Unit C with a water can and tools for primary search and recon. Battalion Chief 1 assumed command and assigned Safety 31 as incident safety officer. After using their TIC heat was discovered in the attic and Engine 38 pulled a line for fire attack. Engine 11 pulled a back up line to the delta side and Engine 38 established their own water supply. A small fire was quickly located, extinguished and all searches were clear. Engine 14 and Engine 15 assisted with checking for extension, overhaul and ventilation. One apartment unit sustained damage and the occupants were displaced. The cause of the fire was accidental and remains under investigation.
