The community was invited to a ribbon cutting dedication ceremony at the new Fossil Ridge Public Safety Center building on September 19th, 2018 at 13150 Quebec St, with tours of the building, food, cake and refreshments. This is a shared public safety building between the Thornton Fire Department Station 6 and the Thornton Police Department as a sub-station. During construction in 2017 Saunders Construction workers found a rare dinosaur skeleton, the find is a rare dinosaur called Torosaurus (The Thornton Torosaurus) that lived 66 million years ago, and a distant cousin to the Triceratops. Some of the bones are displayed inside the front lobby of the station where the bones where found. Students at Brantner Elementary School nicknamed it “Tiny”, which is on displayed at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Speakers during the ceremony were Thornton Police Chief Randy Nelson, Thornton Fire Chief Gordie Olson, Thornton Mayor Pro Tem Jan Kulmann, Project Manager Aaron Pollick of Saunders Inc and George Sparks CEO of the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.
