Edgewater Haz-Mat Response

At 13:42 on October 9th, 2018 JeffCom dispatched out West Metro Fire Rescue to a gas leak at 1725 Sheridan Blvd. in Edgewater at the King Soopers. Engine 1 arrived to a large grocery store in a strip mall with partial evacuation, and requested Xcel to the scene. District 1 arrived and set-up the command post on the Charlie side of the structure, with a possible refrigerant leak inside the structure, and upgraded the call to a full Haz-Mat response at 13:50. Engine 2 arrived and was assigned to evacuate the store and other businesses in the strip mall with Medic 11. Tower 2 and Haz-Mat 1 arrived on the Charlie side, and SAM 1 assigned as safety. The Haz-Mat entry team entered the grocery store and found a Freon leak that was detected in a cooler in the rear of the storage area, crews were able to control and shut off the leak at 14:57 and Engine 1 started ventilation. The call was cleared and units went back in service at 15:02. No injures were reported and the strip mall was reopened for business.
